Happiness

Sunday, June 10, 2016, 9:23 A.M., EDT, New York, NY: Making a surprise appearance, Happiness scurried across the living room carpet. Its presence was unsolicited and presaged by thoughts of good health, companionship, and professional well-being. Short-circuiting notions of prolonged celebration, Happiness scrambled under the couch with neither a suggestion that it would return soon nor stay away indefinitely. As it moved out of sight and toward the edge of consciousness, Happiness referred vaguely to today not being much different than yesterday or tomorrow and muttered hazy, moralistic allusions to perception and attitude. A future sightings schedule was unavailable at press time.
