Each week, we issue a writing prompt to our own staff, guest contributors, and readers like you. We welcome guest submissions, so if you’re interested in being featured or regularly contributing to the site, email your responses to kelaine.conochan [at] thepromptmag.com.
You know those moments that are so vivid in your mind and heart? Those moments where you can feel and see everything, where time stands still, and you’re just so in it that you feel like you could write a novel in the blink of an eye?
Capture that. That’s what we want. Those are the moments worth exploding.
You may remember this writing exercise from middle or high school, back when you learned descriptive or creative writing. Well, the truth is, it’s a pretty excellent writing prompt and a way to refresh on how to really describe the details and nuances of a given moment or occurrence. So, we’re stealing it. Shamelessly. How’s that for your creative crime syndicate?
For more detailed explanation, check this out. Then just go for it. Grab your laptop or some paper, and just like that, you’ll be writing.
We’re looking for fresh ideas and new voices to really be in the moment. So draft up 400-700 words using EXPLODING THE MOMENT as the prompt. It can be a personal essay, a poem, short story, script, satirical post, or anything else original. Just make it worth our while and we’ll publish it, include it in our newsletter, and give you the chance to join the creative, talented staff writers here at The Prompt.
