Prompt Images

Used home goods, priced and placed in careful chaos on card tables in a driveway, across the lawn, or on the sidewalk. Memories and knickknacks. Half broken or never used. Worn, weathered, and loved.
Depending where you grew up, you may call it a yard sale, garage sale, or rummage sale. But it’s all the same thing. And with the plethora of personal items and personalities at every one of these bizarre neighborhood bazaars, we thought it was perfect fodder for writing.
This week, we’re looking for new original pieces, using YARD SALE as our prompt.
If you’ve got an inspired ideas about how to respond to this week’s prompt, send us your submission of 400-700 words. Write us anything that comes to mind when you think of YARD SALE. It can be a personal essay, a poem, short story, script, or anything else original and fresh. Ironic or sincere, real or imagined—just make it worth our while and we’ll publish it, include it in our newsletter, and give you the chance to join the creative, talented staff writers here at The Prompt.
Email your responses to kelaine.conochan@thepromptmag.com by Sunday September 27th at midnight EDT.
