POETRY: The Contours of Living

Rivers of Endurance

Carved deep

Into the skin of my belly

Speak of never ending journeys,

Struggles, failures, and accomplishments.

It has taken me too many years

To love this body

As it was given to me

In its strength, beauty, fragility, and transience

To listen to it

As it speaks to me

And tells me what I must do

And how I must be.

Well, body,

I am now yours

And you are now mine.

I am so glad to be home

And reunited, at last.
